What a pleasure to find myself as a writer among writers, nerding out over seeing writing rock stars and beautifully made books, listening in rapt attention to words — words that challenged, inspired, offered ideas to steal, perspectives to ponder. Even in the confusion of hundreds of competing workshops and readings and off-site events and a book fair that seemed to stretch for miles, and the irritation needled by some panel presenters who seemed to have only prepared something that morning and presenters who erred on the aggravating side of up-talk, and the tingle of tired feet, it was a good time. And I never had to wait for a bathroom stall. I was reminded again of how much I have to learn, which is always a good place to come back to. And I was reminded of how much creativity there is in the world, and fun and play seem to be the key to it all. So, if you’re a writer, you might think about going. Wear comfortable shoes.
